Practice Areas

Our three areas of advisory work.

Each service is described in terms of what the engagement involves — the preparatory work, the meetings, and the written materials produced — so that the process is clear from the outset.

Service 03

Consultation on Adoption Proceedings

For individuals or couples considering adoption under the applicable Malaysian framework. The consultation sets out the procedural route, documentation typically required, and expected duration. This first meeting is exploratory, and the client is offered time to reflect before any next step is considered. Representation in subsequent proceedings can be arranged.

Plain-language documentation

All written materials are prepared so that both parties can read and understand them independently — not just legal counsel.

Considered pace of work

Time is allowed between meetings for reflection. Clients are never pressed to make decisions before they are ready.

Focus on family outcomes

Agreements are drafted with durability in mind — structured to hold practical meaning in the years that follow, not just on the day they are signed.

Malaysian law expertise

Our work is grounded in the applicable Malaysian statutes and court practices, including the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act and related frameworks.

Questions

Things clients often ask before the first meeting.

What should I bring to the first consultation?

There is no strict requirement. A brief written note of the background — dates, names, and the question you are facing — is often helpful. For child support matters, any existing arrangement or court order is useful to have on hand. For nuptial documents, a general sense of what you would like to record is enough to begin.

How long does the advisory process typically take?

It depends on the matter. An adoption consultation may be completed in a single meeting, with follow-up as proceedings develop. Child support advisory work commonly involves two to three meetings over several weeks. Nuptial document preparation tends to take four to eight weeks, allowing time for both parties to reflect between drafts.

Is the first conversation confidential?

Yes. All communications with this practice are subject to legal professional privilege. What is discussed at the initial meeting remains between you and the firm. If you have concerns about speaking freely, please raise them at the outset and they will be addressed.

Do both parties need to be present for nuptial document work?

Not for every meeting. It is common for one party to approach us initially, and for the work to proceed through separate meetings where that arrangement is more comfortable. Independent advice for the other party is encouraged and can be facilitated. The final review, however, benefits from both parties having had the opportunity to consider the document with their own adviser.

What are the fees, and when are they due?

Fees are quoted at the start of engagement and confirmed in writing before work begins. Adoption consultation starts from RM 1,240, child support advisory from RM 1,380, and nuptial document preparation from RM 2,680. A deposit is requested on engagement; the balance is settled on delivery of the final written materials. There are no charges for the initial enquiry.
